My name is Cameron Morales and I’m a senior at Sanford H. Calhoun High School in Merrick, NY. This was my second summer in the Davalos lab, and this summer I had two main focuses: 1) Analyzing the viability of DNA from extinct Malagasy mammalian sub fossils and 2) Creating a phylogeny of Hippopotamuses using data collected from the Hippo tooth morphology performed. I hope that my results help further close the gap between human arrival and extinction of Megafauna in Madagascar, and also close the gaps in Hippopotamus evolution.
